Like every Greek island, Syros hosts many Christian and Catholic festivals. These two traditions have a huge influence and are celebrated in a unique way, which includes food, drink and dance. Religious Holidays & Festivals Easter: Easter in Syros is celebrated with great respect and attracts many visitors. As Syros has a large Catholic community, Easter is celebrated at the same time for the Orthodox and Catholic churches of the island. August 15: On August 15, the biggest religious holiday in Greece and the Greek islands, many festive events take place in Syros, as many churches are dedicated to the Virgin Mary. June 30: The feast of Saint Peter on June 29 in the village of Kini. August 29: The feast of Saint John on August 29 in the village of Poseidonia. July 27: The feast of Saint Panteleimon on July 27 in Finikas.

Cultural events. Guitar Festival: The Guitar Festival is held in Ermoupolis every July. For many years, Syros has hosted one of the largest festivals in the Cyclades, which lasts 5 days and includes concerts, guitar lessons of various levels and music competitions. This festival is a meeting point for young musicians. Ermoupoleia Festival: The Ermoupoleia Festival includes many cultural events, such as music concerts, theater performances and art exhibitions. It usually takes place at the end of summer, early September. August Moons: The August Moons is a beautiful festival that takes place in Ano Syros. Local musicians from Syros gather in the area for an evening dedicated to rebetiko music, which is very popular in Syros. In fact, this island is the homeland of Markos Vamvakaris, the most important Greek rebetiko musician.
